Hyderabad: Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy, who was among the 11 Congress members suspended on Tuesday from the Legislative Assembly, found a supporter in AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi who called for revocation of Jana Reddy’s suspension.
Owaisi expressed sympathy for the position that Jana Reddy found himself in on Monday during Governor ESL Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of the Legislative Council and Assembly that saw Congress members throwing missiles of different kinds at the Governor.
“The Leader of the Opposition, we know how helpless he is, how senior he is and how he is,” Owaisi said in an obvious reference to Jana Reddy’s struggle on Monday to restrain his party members from letting things go out of hand.
“As a leader, it is his responsibility to control his party members. But I do not think he indulged in any action to affect the decorum of the House or that he took any action that warrants suspension,” Owaisi said.
He then called for revocation of Jana Reddy’s suspension and said “let us send a message that those who follow decorum in the House will be part of the House.”
Owaisi also demanded that Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary share with the House what he found during his inquiry into Monday’s incidents. Calling Monday a ‘sad day’, Owaisi said had the marshals not been present in the House, the Congress members would have gone to the Governor on the podium and done much more.
He further suggested that whenever there is chaos in the House, the live telecast of the proceedings be discontinued. Portions of the recorded video footage can later be released after checking it.
