Hyderabad: A 31-year-old person was arrested on Tuesday by the Meerpet police on charges of sexually exploiting a woman and blackmailing her.

According to the police, E Ravi, hailing from Pallepati village of Gadwal district, was the victim’s school friend. In 2016, Ravi contacted the woman and began to torture her saying that he would post her intimate pictures on social media and share them with her husband and relatives as well.

Meerpet Inspector A Manmohan said that the victim, believing that the pictures were actually hers, began to send money and deposited Rs 2.50 lakh in his bank account.

“The suspect and the woman went to school together in Kalwakurthy. After taking money, he started exploiting her sexually. When the woman met him in Kalwakurthy recently, he raped her and took some money as well,” he said.

Police intervened when the woman lodged a complaint on March 10. Ravi was caught red-handed at the victim’s house when he came to take money on Tuesday, the Inspector said.

Police seized a bike and a mobile phone from him and booked a case under the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act. The suspect was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
