Hyderabad: Ten persons were arrested by the city police in connection with a group clash reported at Chikkadpally late on Sunday night. A total of 14 persons suffered injuries in the clash.
According to the police, the clash took place when John, a resident of Suryanagar in Bagh Lingampally, picked up an argument with one Bilal and others over driving an auto-rickshaw at a high speed. The incident took place around 10 pm.
Following the quarrel, John, along with a few others, called up his friends who are local residents and thrashed Bilal and others resulting in tension in the area. A little later, Bilal informed his relatives and friends at Shahbazguda in Musheerabad.
Soon, around 20 persons on motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw came to the spot and attacked John and his friends. Local people of the colony countered the attack of the outsiders resulting in a free for all. Six vehicles were damaged and 14 persons suffered injuries, J Narasiah, ACP Chikkadpally, said.
On receipt of information, the police rushed to the spot and dispersed the gathering. Following rumours of minority youth being caught and asked to chant ‘Jai Sree Ram’, security in the area was beefed up. Late in the night, Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) M Shiva Prasad visited the spot and reviewed the situation.
On Monday, the police identified 10 persons who were involved in the violence with the help of closed-circuit cameras installed in the area and arrested them.
Two cases were registered pertaining to the violence.
“We have invoked Section 307 of IPC against members of both the groups. Ten persons involved in the violence were arrested and remanded,” said Narasiah.
