Hyderabad: Eleven persons were arrested on Wednesday by the Kamatipura police on charges of impersonation and cheating during the Telangana Open School Society (TOSS) SSC examination. They were nabbed by a flying squad during the examination conducted on Tuesday.

According to ACP Charminar, K Ashok Chakravarthy, a flying squad caught seven students who were impersonating during the English examination of TOSS examination being held at Government High School Umda Bazaar located at Kamatipura on Tuesday.

“Five of those who were caught were writing the examination on behalf of their friends. Two of the candidates are staying in Dubai,” said the ACP.

The police are investigating whether those caught for writing examination for others were lured by an organised gang to appear for the candidates. “We are investigating the role of the invigilators and are trying to find out if they had colluded with some private persons to allow the impersonators inside the examination hall,” the ACP said.

The police registered a case under Section 419, 420 and Section 8 of A P Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means Act 1997. The police seized the answer scripts and hall tickets.

All the arrested persons were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
