Yadadri-Bhongir: Failure to get ‘elected’ in a mock election held in a school drove a teenager to commit suicide on Friday. Chinnam Sai Charan, a 13-year-old student of Class VIII, jumped in front of a moving train at Kommaigudem of Ramannapet mandal in the district on Friday morning.

He was a student of Krishnaveni School at Ramannapet. Locals, who found his body on the railway track, informed the police.

The boy’s father, Vijay Kumar, said Sai Charan went out after returning from the school on Thursday evening. When he didn’t return till late in the evening, the family searched for the boy in the vicinity but couldn’t find him. Sources said Sai Charan contested in a mock election on Thursday conducted by the school to bring awareness among students on the democratic system. According to his classmates, he appeared depressed after facing defeat in the
mock elections. It is suspected that he may have taken the extreme step unable to bear the humiliation. The school management remained tightlipped on the incident.

Ramannapet Sub-Inspector Chinna Saiyulu said based on the complaint lodged by Sai Charan’s father, a case was filed. The body was shifted to a local area hospital for postmortem examination.
