Hyderabad: Depressed at failing to clear her Intermediate examinations, a teenaged girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Marredpally, here on Thursday night. In the results which were announced in the evening, she had failed in one subject, police said.
The victim was identified as Lasya (18), who was studying Intermediate second year in a private junior college in the city. She is the only child of her parents and stayed with them in Royal Nest Apartment near Pushpagiri Eye Hospital in West Marredpally.
According to the Marredpally police, when Lasya checked her results, she had passed in all the subjects with good scores except one in which she failed.
“She was depressed with her performance. Though her family supported and tried to make her understand there was another chance, she went into her bedroom and hanged from the ceiling fan in the room with a saree,” said A Srinivasulu, Inspector Marredpally.
Her parents had counselled her not to lose heart as she could have appeared for a supplementary examination and clear the subject. While they were still in the hall, Lasya walked into her bedroom, shut the door and hanged herself.
“After 15 minutes when her mother grew suspicious and checked the bedroom, she found Lasya hanging from the ceiling. They immediately loosened the noose and shifted her to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead,” the inspector said.
On receiving information, the police visited the spot and examined it. No suicide note was found. The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue and was later handed over to her parents on Friday afternoon.
