Hyderabad: The distribution of Rythu Bandhu cheques and pattadar passbooks to farmers crossed the half-way mark on Wednesday, with a whopping 30.57 lakh farmers from 9,250 villages receiving them.
On Wednesday alone, the officials distributed 4.64 lakh cheques and passbooks in 1,082 villages.
The scheme completed one week with overwhelming response from farmers across the State. Though the programme was initially scheduled to be completed within a week, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao directed the officials to distribute cheques and passbooks to farmers only during the morning and evening hours owing to the scorching temperatures.
The Chief Minister also made it clear that the schedule may be extended in view of the weather.
While Nalgonda district continues in the top slot with distribution of 1.91 lakh passbooks and cheques till date, Khammam and Mahabubnagar districts are closely following with 1.54 lakh and 1.46 lakh beneficiaries respectively.
The officials have planned to distribute cheques and passbooks to about 58.24 lakh farmers from 10,750 villages in the State under the scheme.
