Hyderabad: A 55-year-old person died after the bike he was travelling was hit by a speeding truck at Pedda Amberpet, under the Hayathnagar police station limits, here on Thursday.

According to the police, Sheikh Maqbool, a resident of Kukatpally, was a private employee at a real estate firm in the city. The accident took place when Maqbool was going towards Hayathnagar and took u-turn near Pedda Amberpet junction.

The truck heading from Outer Ring Road towards Hayathnagar allegedly hit the victim’s two-wheeler when he was about to reach the corner end of the road.

“The driver was negligent. The vehicle was being driven at high speed despite the road being heavily crowded. As the vehicle hit the bike, Maqbool fell onto the ground and died on the spot,” said J Narender Goud, Inspector, Hayathnagar.

Based on the complaint from Maqbool’s son, police have registered a case under relevant sections and the truck has been seized.

The Inspector said the driver fled away abandoning the vehicle and to nab him, a special team has been deployed. “The victim was not wearing the helmet,” he added.

The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigation is going on.
