Hyderabad: Weighing 580 kg, this gigantic laddu has come all the way from Tapeswaram in faraway East Godavari to be offered as ‘Maha Prasadam’ to Lord Ganesh at Daiva Sannidhanam temple in Film Nagar here.
The laddu made its way to the capital due to the unwavering determination of sweets and food products maker Suruchi Foods to offer mammoth laddus to Lord Ganesh in Hyderabad every year. Earlier, the firm used to present the laddu to the iconic Khairatabad Ganesh. From last year, it has been offering the same to Daiva Sannidhanam temple.
The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi was finding it difficult to distribute the laddu to devotees on the immersion day with people turning up in large numbers for the ‘Maha Prasadam’ and the exercise was leading to a lot of inconvenience. “So we have offered a 300-kg laddu as ‘prasadam’ for Lord Ganesh this year,” said Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi secretary Raj Kumar.
However, this change did not deter the commitment of Suruchi Foods to offer a mammoth laddu to the Lord in Hyderabad. The 580-kg-laddu was brought to the city on Thursday and was presented after performing pujas.
About 220 kg of sugar, 145 kg of cow ghee, 175 kg Bengal gram flour, 25 kg of cashew nuts, 13 kg of g almonds, three kg of cardamom and one kg of green camphor went into the making of the sweet, Varma, spokesperson for Suruchi Foods, said.
It costs about Rs 3 lakh. 11 people, including Suruchi Foods owner PVVS Mallikarjuna Rao observed penance while preparing the laddu. The laddu will be distributed to the devotees on Sunday from 5 p.m onwards at the temple premises.
