Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police arrested an eight-member gang, including three minor boys, for their alleged involvement in mobile phone snatching cases in Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad here on Friday. Some 34 mobile phones and four bikes were seized from them.
The arrested were Syed Haroon, Mohd Fahad, Mohd Mohsin Alam, Mohd Zubair, an AC technician, and Zubair, an automobile mechanic. Three others are minor boys.
The gang first arrested four members of the gang during a vehicle checking at Mettuguda late on Thursday. Based on their confession, others were taken into custody.
Officials said of the 34 offences committed by the gang, 15 were in Hyderabad, 12 in Cyberabad and seven in Rachakonda. According to the police, the gang used to move in secluded places on two sports bikes targeting people carrying mobile phones.
“While those on one bike moving ahead snatches mobiles, those on the other follows them and keeps a watch on surroundings,” said Hyderabad Commissioner Anjani Kumar.
Officials said after the commission of offences, the gang flees the spot immediately by switching off the mobile phones and further sells them at throwaway prices irrespective of the brand, model and price.
“These stolen phones are put on display for sale by owners in Jagdish Market and Hong Kong Bazaar in the city which are bought by other customers,” the Commissioner said.
Ten receivers from Jagdish Market and one from Hong Kong Bazaar were arrested for buying stolen mobile phones, police said.
