Hyderabad: Water woes on the city outskirts are likely to be addressed shortly with the HMWSSB getting ready to commission 12 reservoirs in a fortnight and 15 more next month.

With the commissioning of 12 reservoirs, residents of Gopanpally, Nallagandla, Hafeezpet, Shapurnagar and other peripheral areas can look forward to sufficient drinking water supply.

Among these reservoirs, three will be commissioned in Goutham Nagar, Malkajgiri which will address the long pending demand of local residents for adequate water supply.

Once operational, the reservoirs which have been set up with a capacity to cover large areas, will facilitate nearly 20,000 new connections, a senior official said.

On the other hand, the board officials are making all efforts to extend one lakh water connections in the peripheral areas, especially the Re 1 connections for BPL families under Urban Mission Bhagiratha. The HMWSSB has set a target of providing 60,000 connections this month alone.

To spread awareness on the Re 1 water connection that is aimed at below poverty line families in slums and other areas, the board has also roped in the services of self-help groups.

Several awareness programmes were conducted in Autonagar, LB Nagar constituency and Nadigadda Thanda of Serilingampally constituency.

The BPL families applying for connection will have to produce proof of identity in the form of white rationcard, electricity bill, Patta, Income Certificate, Affidavit/Notary etc.
