Wanaparthy: Two workers of Allied Blenders and Distillers Private Limited (ABD) who were about to take a turn on NH 44 close to the company met with an accident when a speeding car hit their bike. In the impact, one worker was killed on the spot and the other was severely injured.

On Tuesday morning, Yousuf and Saleem, both residents of Pebbair, were on their way to the company when the incident took place.

While Yousuf killed on the spot, Saleem was critically injured and was shifted to Pebbair Government Hospital. Yousuf’s body was shifted to Wanaparthy District Hospital for post-mortem.

For the past few months, workers of the company have been demanding for bus service and better pay. Just a month ago, about 1,000 women held a dharna blocking the main road in front of the company.

The workers were assured about a fortnight ago that a bus service would be started by the company to pick and drop workers, so that women didn’t have to travel stuffed in seven-seater autos. However, the company is yet to deliver on its promises.
