Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Sharwanand took up the Green India Challenge and planted saplings at a park near his residence in Jubilee Hills here on Monday.
The GHMC is taking up Yadadri Natural Forest (Miyawaki) model plantations in the park. The actor has also announced that he would adopt the park and ensure the survival of saplings and trees in the park. He further said basic amenities like walking tracks and other facilities would be provided with his own funds.
Rajya Sabha MP J. Santhosh Kumar had launched the Green India Challenge as a means to create awareness among people to plant trees and increase green cover. Speaking on the occasion, Sharwanand said “The initiative launched by Rajya Sabha MP J. Santhosh Kumar is aimed at increasing the green cover and I am inspired to do my bit.”
Going by the rising pollution levels, there could be possibilities of people buying oxygen. To avoid such adverse situations, people should plant saplings and ensure their survival, he said.
MP Santhosh Kumar, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender also participated in the programme. Later, the actor nominated Anil Sunkara (AK Enterprises), Gopi Achanta and Ram Achanta (14 Reels) Vamshi, Vicky and Pramod (UV Creations) and Sudhakar Cherukuri (SLV) to take up the Green India Challenge.
MP Santhosh Kumar appreciated Sharwanand for taking up the challenge and also adopting the park.
