Remember those big dreams of seeing yourself with a crown and wanting to make a mark for yourself? But somehow, it was put on the back burner because of marriage and having to raise a family. Renuka Kumbham faced the same scenario. However, she didn’t lose hope. At the age of 40, she showed how fulfilling a lifelong passion at 30 or beyond is just as sweet — if not sweeter — than what it might have been at 20.
The Karimnagar resident, brought home the ‘Mrs Photogenic’ title in the Savvy Mrs India 2019, held at Taj Santacruz, Mumbai, on June 23. Narrating her journey, she says, “It all started with ‘Mrs Karnataka I Am Powerful pageant’ in January where I bagged the title of ‘Mrs Graceful’. But I wanted to participated in a national pageant and my husband and children encouraged me. In June, the auditions happened and I made my way to the finale along with 30-odd participants.” Having gotten married at 18 while she was in second year of graduation, she completed her Masters in Environmental Science and Ecology while juggling her family duties. “I did not participate in the contest just for the glamour quotient, but to have an experience of lifetime. There were people who tried bringing me down saying this is not the age to compete in pageants, but then I met this 65-year old contestant who showed that age is just a number, all you need in life is passion,” adds the mother of two and the only homemaker in the pageant, judged by eminent personalities like Anu Malik, Zarina Wahab, Bhumika Chawla, Shibani Kashyap and Kailash Kher.
