Hyderabad: The SR Nagar police on Sunday rescued a newborn baby boy whose mother was allegedly trying to sell him after she found that she was suffering from a life-threatening disease.

According to Mohammed Waheeduddin, Inspector, SR Nagar, the woman, Anjamma, a resident of Tandur, was on the way to the city when she delivered a male child on the train. She was shifted to Gandhi Hospital after reaching the Secunderabad Railway Station.

Doctors at the hospital advised the woman not to feed her child as she could transmit the disease to the newborn. The woman then planned to hand over the child to someone who was keen on adopting him. She reached SR Nagar and was trying to find someone to adopt the newborn when the police got wind of it.

“Anjamma struck a deal for Rs 1.3 lakh with our decoy team following which we took the newborn into custody and sent him to Shishu Vihar,” the Inspector explained. No case was registered against the woman.
