Mancherial: Mancherial police came in for praise on Tuesday when they prevented a 22-year-old woman from committing suicide by swiftly responding to a distress call received through Dial 100 service.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D Uday Kumar Reddy, giving details to the media here, said police officials of Mancherial Rural and Luxettipet police stations showed spontaneity and prevented the suicide by the girl who was reportedly dejected after being cheated by her lover. The cops acted quickly after her father reported around midnight that his daughter had gone.

“Officials manning the Dial 100 service immediately shared details of the case with police officials concerned soon after receiving the call from the father of the girl on Tuesday at 1.30 am. Immediately, Luxettipet Inspector B Narayana, sleuths of Blue Colts and patrolling team were alerted. They searched surroundings areas for the girl. Similarly, Mancherial Rural Inspector Y Krishna Kumar who was on patrolling duty, was instructed to carry out vehicle-checks and found the girl travelling in a private vehicle at 2.30 am,” Uday Kumar informed.

The DCP informed that the girl, a B Tech graduate, left home after being reprimanded by her parents for being depressed after her boy friend married another girl. “When asked, she told us that she wanted to end her life by throwing herself in front of a train in Mancherial. Had the police not traced her, she would have committed suicide,” he said, adding that she was handed over her to parents after counseling. Her parents were also counselled.

The head of district police force said that Mancherial cops were responding comparatively quicker than their counterparts and extending their support to the complaints whenever they receive distress call from the Dial 100 service. He suggested the public to share their location and relevant details of an incident.

In the meantime, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana was all praise for Inspector Krishna Kumar and his team for showing spontaneity and for finding the girl by acting swiftly. He also commended DCP Uday Kumar and ACP Laxminarayana for supervising the operation and successfully stopping the girl from resorting to the extreme step.
