Warangal Urban: Police commissioner G Sudheer Babu assured to extend all the support to the District Sports and Games department officials for the development of sports and games under the Warangal Police Commissionerate limits.

He had handed over the sports and games material, which were used during the recently organised Second Telangana State Police Sports and Games meet, to the District Sports and Games officials at a programme held in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

District Youth & Sports Officer (DYSO) Dhanalakshmi received sports materials worth more than Rs 10 lakh from the police commissioner at the programme.

The material included 353 synthetic mats used for the Kabbadi game in the indoor stadium, and other materials used for boxing, hockey, volleyball, football, weightlifting, lawn-tennis, athletics, judo and gymnastics.

Speaking on the occasion, police commissioner G Sudheer Babu, who was instrumental in the successful conduct of the police sports meet in Warangal, said that they have developed sports facilities in the city including setting up the floodlights at two volleyball courts, modernising the basketball court besides setting up the flood lights, so as to facilitate conducting the games during the night hours.

“We have also dug up new bore wells to address the water scarcity problem at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) in Hanamkonda,” he said, adding that the sports material handed over to the District Sports and Games development officials would be helpful to the budding sports persons and athletes in the district.

He thanked the district collectors of Warangal Urban, Rural and Jangaon, officials of the SCCL and other government institutions for providing their assistance for the successful conduct of the police sports meet.

Hanamkonda ACP Muralidhar, ACP (AR) Vidyasagar, RI Srinivas, Traffic sub-inspector Ravi Raj, RSIS Srdihar Reddy, Sampath Kumar, Sports and games coaches Mallesham, Ramesh, Jagadish, Afzal, Vishnuvardhan and Srimannarayana were present at the programme.
