Visakhapatnam: All political parties have geared up for a State-wide bandh on Monday to press for the special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.
The YSR Congres Party, Congress, CPM, CPI, Jana Sena Party, and Lok Satta have announced participation in the bandh. The leaders of these parties in the city have plans to begin the programme from Maddilapalem Junction at 5 a.m. and block the entire national highway no. 16 and ensure no vehicle passes through the city.
Most of the educational institutions have already declared holiday in view of the proposed bandh.
The State Govenrment, which is also demanding SCS from the Centre, may not seriously try to thwart the day-long bandh lest it should give wrong signals to the people, political observers feel. The political parties participating in the bandh have also appealed to the ruling TDP to participate in the bandh and make it a success.
