Hyderabad: Amazon.in has resumed its Pantry and Fresh services in Hyderabad. To serve its customers’ most urgent needs, the e-commerce platform is currently prioritising and delivering items that are essential as per the guidelines of the government such as food, groceries, medicines and health/personal care.

As a part of the Fresh services, fresh fruits and vegetables are being delivered. Pantry primarily includes dry ration products. These services had also been extended to Warangal in Telangana. The company is catering to 97 per cent of the pincodes in Hyderabad and 97 percent of pincodes of Warangal. Amazon.in said it is closely working with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that essential supplies are reaching customers. Pantry is making an eight-day promise but Amazon is ensuring that deliveries happen before time across cities.

Amazon India spokesperson told Telangana Today, “Earlier e-commerce services had been impacted due to the lockdown but in the last two days, normalcy has returned. We are today delivering essential items. Lower-priority products however are temporarily unavailable on our platform.”

Safety measures

As a measure of safety, customers can now avail no contact delivery where the delivery associate leaves the package at the doorstep, following social distancing guidelines. With temporary suspension of Pay-on-Delivery / Cash-on-Delivery on Amazon.in orders, one can avoid card and cash exchange at the doorstep.

Amazon.in has also put in place stringent norms to maintain hygiene and is cleaning and sanitising all its facilities and workstations. From increased frequency and intensity of cleaning at sites, sanitisation of all frequently touched areas to disinfecting workstations regularly and social distancing practices in every process of fulfilment, there are several preventive measures that are being taken. The delivery vehicles and devices are also cleaned regularly to ensure a safe delivery.

Demand-supply trends

Though there is jump in essential product orders through the platform, the company said it is difficult to quantify that jump at this stage. Demand for essentials has always remained healthy on the platform, the spokesperson said.

Food and personal care products as well as fresh fruits and vegetables are in high demand. Amazon.in is closely working with manufacturers—both big and small to match the demand that is emerging. With a severe shortage experienced for sanitisers, several companies across India have stepped in to manufacture them to ensure there are adequate supplies.

National perspective

The spokesperson said, “Despite many on ground challenges of the nationwide lock down, we have gradually resumed services and are continuing to ramp up. We are currently accepting new orders for essential items as per the guidelines of the Government in more than 100 cities across India, while prioritising existing orders of essential products. Amazon Pantry is live and has begun accepting new orders and delivering in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal to name a few with an improved delivery promise. Amazon Fresh is now live in four cities of Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru and customers can schedule the delivery of their daily essentials by choosing a delivery slot, as per their convenience, within the next six days.”

“Since the lockdown in India on 25th March, Amazon Fresh and Prime Now Grocery has shipped tens of thousands of products including fresh fruit and vegetables. We are thankful for the timely interventions of the Central Government and the State Governments as they meet the COVID19 challenge and balance the need of essentials of citizens towards ensuring social distancing,” the spokesperson added.
