Visakhapatnam: Is the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry into the land scam rocking the State only an eye-wash? The latest developments with regard to the scam make many think so.
Less than 24 hours after the Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao announced forming of SIT at Vijayawada, one of its members Visakhapatnam Joint Collector G Srujana is going on leave giving room for doubt.
Rao on Sunday at Vijayawada had announced the SIT team with former CBI DIG Vineer Brijal and Visakhapatnam Joint Collector G Srujana and Revenue Divisional Officer Vijaya Saradhi as its members.
Moreover, District Collector Pravin Kumar reportedly tried to stop the special teams which are surveying the lands in question. Kumar’s this move has raised many an eyebrow. This is because, it was the Collector, who in good faith informed about the tampering of land records and asked the Joint Collector to get to the bottom of it by ordering a thorough survey of the lands.
And now the survey teams are recalled and Srujana, who is in the thick of it has suddenly vanished, political observers pointed out.
Incidentally, the lands in Madhurawada and Kommadi areas come under the Bheemunipatnam Assembly constituency represented by State HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. It is said that his close aide and relative Parachuri Bhaskara Rao is involved in the scam. Any attempt to probe it would only stir a hornet’s nest, they said.
Sensing this, the State Government has resorted to damage control which can only be done by shielding the culprits, a Left activist has alleged and the latest step taken by the Government in the episode lends credence to this, they added.
