Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government has announced that YSR Crop insurance will be implemented collecting Re 1 from farmer for this year. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy cleared the insurance amount kept pending by the previous government.
According to an official statement here on Friday, the state share of rs 122.61 crore for Rabi season 2018-19, kept pending by the previous government, was released along with the total claim, working out to Rs 596. 36 crore benefiting 5.94 lakh farmers. From this season onwards crop insurance will be paid by the government by collecting a nominal Re 1 from the farmer.
During the video conference before interacting with farmers, the Chief Minister said that e-cropping will be in force at RBKs and the government will pay the premium immediately. The previous government did not pay the insurance premium for rabi 2018-19 and neglected the agriculture sector. Normally one month before the agriculture season, the premium amount is paid but for the rabi season 2018-19 the farmers and Centre have paid their share but the State has failed to pay the amount of Rs 122.61 crores, thus the farmers could not get their insurance premium, he said.
To avoid such inconvenience the government has decided to pay the premium amount on behalf of the farmer and collect a nominal Rs 1 from them and once the e-cropping is done, the premium amount will be paid to the farmers. The State has been giving Rythu Bharosa amount, setting up of RBKs, e-cropping, crop insurance besides other facilities to the farmers like crop loans. Quality inputs, like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides are being distributed through RBKs besides providing MSP to farmers.
The district collectors should be talking to bankers to ensure that the amount deposited is not adjusted to other loans taken by the farmers.
Agriculture Minister K Kannababu said that the Government besides clearing the previous government dues has been helping farmers at every step from the start of the agriculture season till marketing the produce by giving MSP.
Agriculture Minister K Kannababu, Agriculture Mission Vice Chairman MVS Nagai Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Poonam Malakondiah, Agriculture Department Commissioner Arun Kumar were among others present at the video conference.
