Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer VC Sajjanar assumed charge as Cyberabad Police Commissioner here on Wednesday.

Sajjanar took over from Sandeep Shandilya, who will soon be taking over charge as Additional Director General of Police, Railways and Road Safety.

An IPS officer of the 1996 batch, Sajjanar served as Inspector General of Police (Special Intelligence Branch), prior to which he was the Deputy Inspector General of Police with the same wing.

Exclusively set up to collect intel and evolve counter strategies against the Maoists, the SIB under Sajjanar has been successful in keeping Maoist activities in the country’s youngest State to a bare minimum, with Director-General of Police M Mahender Reddy recently making it clear that there was no presence or movement of Maoists in Telangana.

Addressing the media, Sajjanar, who served with the Intelligence wing for seven years, said the initiatives introduced by his predecessors would be taken forward and that the administration would work in line with the policies introduced by the Telangana State Police.

“The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate is famous for its vibrant development in the IT sector and as a hub to organise various events at the international level. Keeping all these in view, the Commissionerate will prioritise its duties and work accordingly,” he said.

The new Commissioner said there were a lot of challenges ahead for him. “Unlike in the Intelligence wing, here at the Commissionerate, coordination plays a key role. We have to consider several factors before introducing any new policy or taking any new measures,” he said.

Stressing that the Commissionerate would focus beyond basic policing and technology initiatives, he said special focus would be laid on resolving cases related to cybercrime and human trafficking, besides creating awareness on economic and white collar offences.

Apart from these, issues pertaining to safety of women and children, security of IT and other industries, road safety and traffic issues would also be given priority.

Before being posted with the Intelligence Wing, Sajjanar was with the OCTOPUS and the Economic Offences Wing (CID) holding Superintendent of Police rank. He began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police of Jangaon (Warangal District).
