Nagarkurnool: Minister for Panchayat Raj Jupally Krishna Rao directed Collectors and panchayat raj officials to appoint special officers in every gram panchayat in the State, keeping in view the term of sarpanches which ends this month.

Addressing the Collectors of all districts and panchayat raj officials through a video conference from Nagarkurnool on Thursday, he said currently, there were only 3,506 panchayat secretaries in the State and that after the formation of new gram panchayats, there would be a total 12,500 GPs in the State. He felt that there was a need to appoint a panchayat secretary in every GP within three to four days.

He asked officials to appoint special officers for 8,000 GPs immediately and directed that mandal and district-level officers — MROs, MPDOs, Deputy MROs, EOPRD, MAOs, Veterinary Officers, AEOs and others — could be appointed.

He directed officials to provide all facilities in newly created gram panchayats and to make elaborate arrangements for the ceremony marking their formation.

He also said the government had decided to plant 100 crore saplings as part of Haritha Haram next year and that every gram panchayat had to set up its own nursery for this purpose.
