Hyderabad: Fed up with the alleged harassment by his superiors, an Assistant Sub-Inspector tried to set himself on fire in front of the Balapur police station here on Friday afternoon.
K Narsimha, a resident of Badangpet, who was working at the Balapur police station, was recently transferred to the Manchal police station. He reported for duty on Thursday and worked for a day. But, around 3 pm on Friday, Narasimha, wearing his uniform, climbed a water tank in front of the police station. He carried fuel in a plastic bottle, with which he doused his body with and set himself ablaze.
“Police personnel and local residents who noticed him rushed to his rescue. They brought him down and rushed him to Apollo DRDO Hospital in Kanchanbagh in a police vehicle,” police said, adding his condition was critical and is under observation.
Narsimha alleged harassment by Balapur Inspector V Saidulu, blaming the latter for his transfer. He is believed to have been angry over the transfer, and resorted to the extreme step.
Narasimha earlier alleged that he was being harassed for the last five months by the Inspector who forced him to collect ‘mamools’ from traders, temples and others. The Inspector also filed a false report against Narsimha, he claimed. When he refused to do the illegal tasks, the Inspector bore a grudge against him and got him transferred. Inspector Saidulu denied the allegations. The Balapur police registered a case and are investigating.
