Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A group of Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) and Mandal Panchayat Officers (MPOs) raised the banner of revolt against District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, and decided to stay away from work indefinitely from Monday.

The MPDOs and MPOs alleged that the Collector was convening video conferences over progress of developmental activities every day from 10 pm to 1 am, and even on holidays. They said they were returning home at 9 PM and were unable to spend time with their families. They declared that they would attend duties only after the collector is transferred from the district.

The officials said they were facing severe workload and the Collector was not satisfied with their performance even after their being dedicated to office for over 12 hours a day. They alleged he was not allowing them to take leave on Sundays and was assigning some tasks on festivals as well.

The group, led by Zilla Parishad CEO Venu, submitted a memorandum to ZP chairperson Kova Laxmi on Sunday. Venu accused Sandeep Kumar of showing discrimination against him. He lamented that he was posted as a special officer of Bejjur mandal. No ZP CEO was given the post so far. Many other MPDOs and MPOs stated that they were subjected to harassment by the IAS officer.

Kova Laxmi found fault with the Collector for objecting to her when she conducted a review meeting over COVID-19 and progress of works being taken up under National Employment Guarantee Act. She assured the MPDOs and MPOs that she would try to solve the issue by bringing it to the notice of the government at the earliest.

Sandeep Kumar was not available for a comment.
