Police examine CCTV footage from a mobile store after a traffic cop's walkie talkie set went missing.

Hyderabad: An auto driver allegedly snatched a walkie-talkie set from a traffic cop when the latter was monitoring traffic on the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand Road under the Mirchowk police station limits here on Monday.

According to Mirchowk Sub-Inspector Raju Naik, Jangaiah, a home guard with the Mirchowk Traffic police station, suffered injuries in the incident that took place around 7.40 pm on the busy MGBS Road.

Jangaiah was standing on the roadside and clearing the traffic. Meanwhile, an auto-rickshaw hit him and sped off with the policeman’s walkie-talkie set.

“As per preliminary details, we suspect that the walkie-talkie set accidentally fell inside the auto-rickshaw. The driver tried to escape assuming that he was being stopped for checking,” the Inspector said.

Police teams from Mirchowk Law and Order and the Traffic police stations immediately swung into action and efforts are on to trace out the driver. CCTV cameras from the locality are also being examined.

Further details are awaited.
