Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver sexually assaulted an eight-year-old boy, who was plucking mangoes near a military area in Hyderabad on Sunday, the Humanyun Nagar police said.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 2 pm when the boy along with his friends was plucking mangoes from a tree. The auto driver, Masood — a resident of Langar Houz — was returning to Humayun Nagar after dropping a passenger and stopped at the tree when he saw the boy.
Humanyun Nagar Inspector NLN Raju said he lured him by promising to buy him toffees and took him to a public toilet. “He attempted to assault him sexually. The boy escaped and passersby, who saw him screaming, came to his rescue. Masood was immediately handed over to the police,” Raju said.
Based on the boy’s statement and his parents’ complaint, the police booked a case under Section 377 (Unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Raju said the boy was shifted to a local private hospital for medical attention. Masood was arrested, he said.
