Jangaon: Noticing an autorickshaw overloaded with many school children on the Hyderabad-Warangal highway in Jangaon town on Friday, District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy asked his driver to chase the autorickshaw and intercept it.
On interception, the Collector was surprised to see as many as 18 children travelling in the four-seater autorickshaw of one Vaishnavi school, putting their lives in peril. After questioning the auto driver, MD Jaleel, for transporting excess passengers, the Collector called the police, transport officials and ordered them to seize the autorickshaw immediately and book a case against the driver under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Following the directions of the Collector, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector (AMVI) Saicharan booked a case against the driver and seized the auto. On the other hand, the Collector also called the representatives of Vaishanvi School and expressed his anger over them for their negligence and asked them to not repeat such mistakes in future. He also warned the school management that recognition of the school will be cancelled if such incidents repeat. He also asked the Sub-Inspector of Police, Rajesh Naik, to keep a vigil on autos and check overloading of passengers. It may be recalled here that an auto carrying 12 students turned turtle at Shamirpet near Jangaon on Thursday injuring four of them.
