Kothagudem: Extensive voter awareness campaign on VVPAT and EVMs is being conducted in Bhadradri Kothagudem district ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) used for the first time along with electronic voting machines (EVMs) in recent Assembly elections ensured transparency in the polling process, said Joint Collector K Venkateshwarlu.

The awareness programme has been taken up to educate masses, especially in remote areas and villages. These will be conducted in 27 mandals of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad and Jayashanker Bhupalpalli districts that are part of Khammam and Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituencies.

In all, 40 EVM units in rural areas and 8 units in municipalities are being used for the purpose. Municipal Commissioners and MPDOs have been directed to submit a report on daily progress.

Venkateshwarlu said the exercise would help clear doubts among the people on the functioning of the EVMs and VVPATs.

VVPAT serves as a second line of verification in the election process and gives information if the vote polled by a voter goes to the right candidate, he added. People could use CEC’s toll-free number 1950 or 1950 to get information about election-related matters, he said.
