Bengaluru poet-dancer bags Rayaprol Poetry Prize

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old poet, choreographer, and dancer from Bengaluru, Poorna Swami was presented the 10th Srinivas Rayaprol Poetry Prize at a literary event held at Golden Threshold, University of Hyderabad (UoH) here on Sunday.

She was chosen among over 100 contestants from across the country by a jury comprising distinguished literary scholar and poet, Professor EV Ramakrishnan and two faculty members, Professor Anna Kurian and Dr Gopika Sankar, of the Department of English, UoH.

Poorna completed dance-theatre and English at Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, and has published her poetry in literary journals and popular publications.

Presenting citation for the award to Poorna Swami, jury member and well-known poet, Professor Ramakrishnan commended her poetry for its ‘effortless flow and assured poise’ as they explore the intimate and everyday world of relationships.
Srinivas Rayaprol Literary Trust and Department of English, UoH jointly administer the prize in recognition of excellence in poetry written in English by poets in the age group of 20 years to 40 years.
