Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set August 15 as the deadline for Bulk Garbage Generators in the capital to install compost machines within their premises.
According to GHMC officials, as per Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, all Bulk Garbage Generators, those producing 50 kg and above of waste per day, have to install composting machines in their premises to process the wet waste.
Accordingly, GHMC had recognised hotels, restaurants, function halls, kalyana mandapams and banquet halls across Hyderabad, which generate 50 kg of waste per day, as commercial Bulk Garbage Generators (BGGs).
To facilitate BGGs install compost machines in their premises, the GHMC in its website has published the list of all the empanelled agencies, who deal with sale of all kinds of compost machines.
The GHMC Commissioner, B Janardhan Reddy said that adequate time had been provided for commercial establishments to install compost facilities.
In case any BGG fails to implement the instructions within the specified period of time, GHMC will enforce and would take necessary action against them.
“We are continually striving to achieve better sanitation and solid waste management in Hyderabad. It is expected from all the BGGs to co-operate and undertake immediate required action in implementing the same,” the GHMC Commissioner in a press release added.
