Hyderabad: Minister for BC Welfare and Forest Jogu Ramanna on Wednesday said it was a matter of regret that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who himself hails from a backward community, had done nothing for the betterment of Backward Classes and had not even bothered to give statutory body status to the BC Commission.
Speaking to mediapersons at the TRSLP office here, the Minister attacked both Congress and BJP stating that even 71 years after Independence, there was no development with regard to BCs in the country. “In Telangana State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has implemented scores of novel initiatives for the betterment of the BC community in the State,” he said.
Ramanna said Chandrashekhar Rao had proposed a third political front only to ensure that justice is done to the BCs in the country. “In fact, Chandrashekhar Rao during his tenure as Central Minister in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet had pitched for separate Ministry for OBC and wanted huge budgetary allocations based on BC population,” he said.
“Why is the Prime Minister keeping mum on the resolution passed by the State Assembly on providing reservation to BCs in State Legislature?” he questioned. Of the Rs 24 lakh crore union budget, the Centre allocated only Rs 1,000 crore for BC welfare which shows their commitment towards BCs, he said, adding: Though TS is a new State, it has allocated Rs 5,000 crore for BC welfare in last year’s budget.”
The Minister said there are indications that the third front may be launched during the TRS plenary session in the presence of national leaders. “I welcome it and hope the new third front will do justice to all communities,” he added.
