Most of us are under the impression that we’ve nailed that perfect skin care routine – cleanser, toner and moisturiser. But, your recipe of that perfect routine isn’t complete until you add a little bit of a face serum to it. A face serum is a lightweight moisturiser that also contains higher concentration of vitamin C than your regular moisturisers.
Loaded with nutrients and essential vitamins, face serums are usually oil or water-based products that can penetrate deep into the skin and bring out the best results. While their most common benefits include keeping the skin healthy and hydrated, acne prevention and deep nourishment, face serums are also known to help in strengthening skin cells.
For best results, make it an active part of your daily skin care routine and while doing so, make sure to keep the quantity to a bare minimum. Also, it is always advised to test the serum on a smaller patch of skin and check if it suits your skin, before you go ahead with it.
Follow these steps to take your skincare routine up a notch
It is important that your skin is clean before you apply any kind of serum on it. Use a gentle cleanser and gentle exfoliator to remove dry and dead skin cells, so that the serum can easily penetrate into the layers of the skin. Make sure to use warm water while cleansing as it keeps the skin pores open and receptive to nutrition.
Consider a toner
Use an alcohol-free toner and apply the serum whilst the toner is still damp on the skin as serums can penetrate better on a moist skin. You can also try spraying mist to make sure that there aren’t any cleanser remnants on the skin.
Once you’re done with cleansing and toning, apply minimal amounts of serum on your already damp skin and allow it to dry. Wait a little so that the serum is fully absorbed before you apply moisturiser. Be as gentle as you can while applying serum. Just take a few drops on your palms and gently massage it on your face.
Finally, use a natural moisturiser, one that suits your skin type, to lock the serum in.
