Hyderabad: The three-member gang, which was jointly busted by the LB Nagar Special Operations Team and the Maheshwaram police for selling the banned tobacco products late on Monday, had procured the tobacco material from dealers in Shivamogga of Karnataka and manufactured gutkha in a rented room here in the city.

Officials on Tuesday said further investigation revealed that the raw material was being transported from Karnataka in trucks and auto-rickshaws to the storehouse and manufacturing unit at Nagaram village in Maheshwaram.

“As the product has been banned in the State, the gang transported it to various dealers in Guntur and Tenali of Andhra Pradesh and other districts in Telangana,” police said.

The police had raided the unit late on Monday and arrested Syed Sharfuddin, Hari and Manoj alias Monoj Bishkarma. They seized gutkha products, cash and equipment, all worth Rs 26 lakh from them.
