Cancer care workshop for nurses conducted in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: American Oncology Institute, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, UK, and Paediatric Haematology Oncology chapter of Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) conducted a two-day skill upgradation workshop for nurses on ‘Foundation Oncology Skills for Paediatric Nurses’, a press release said.

The workshop focused on nurses working in paediatrics, paediatric haematology, oncology and PICU setting to give them knowledge about the basics of caring for a child with cancer.

“Childhood cancer care and outcome is improving steadily in India. Nurses are the backbone of hospitals. Training nurses to deal with children with cancers is a giant step in our endeavour to improving healthcare and services in our country,” said Dr Amita Tehran, national coordinator for Foundation Skills in Paediatric Oncology.

Nilesh Gupta, zonal director, AOI; Dr M Babaiah, medical director, AOI; and paediatric oncologists Dr Parinitha Gutha and Dr Sirisha Rani were present.
