Hyderabad: Camera maker Canon India launched two full-frame mirrorless cameras- EOS R5 and R6 in India markets. They will be available from next month through the Canon Image Square and authorised outlets.
C Sukumaran, director, Consumer System Products & Imaging Communication Products, said the EOS R5 features 8K movie recording and a 45 megapixels full-frame CMOS sensor. The EOS R6 has 4K movie recording and 20.1 MP sensor. Both have Canon’s DIGIC X imaging processor and a new in-body image stabiliser. On the mirrorless camera line-up, he said they account about 20 per cent of the sales and the remaining continue to be DSLRs.
The company has also witnessed a rise in demand for innovation in the mirrorless camera segment among the professional segment of photographers and videographers. Canon has also launched a series of lenses including the RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM, RF 600mm F11 IS STM, RF 800mm F11 IS STM, RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM. It also has adapters that will couple the old Canon lenses with the EOS R system.
On the impact of Covid-19 on photography, he said the demand from the professional segment, particularly wedding photographers, has fallen as many events have been postponed for the later part of the year. “While fewer people than before will attend the marriages, the need for professional photographers will rise to capture the moments. There will be more insistence on live streaming, which calls for professional skills,” he said.
On the other hand, the lockdown has brought out the hobbyists and they have accounted for higher sales of entry and mid-level cameras. There is also a new category- Vloggers, who are making videos of their respective streams for social media, Youtube and other channels. All these are looking to have their own photography and videography equipment. The over-the-top platform boom is resulting in sales of high-end equipment for content creation, Sukumaran said.
