Hyderabad: The Meerpet police on Thursday filed an FIR in connection with an incident related to the alleged poisoning of a stray dog.

A case under Section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was booked based on a complaint lodged by Shiva Kumar from NGO People For Animals.

Kumar informed the police that he found the carcass of a dog in the forest area at Ravirala and added that an unidentified person could have poisoned the dog to death to get rid of the stray dog menace in the locality.

Meerpet Sub-Inspector AA Raju said the dog’s post-mortem was conducted with the help of veterinary doctors from Tukuguda in Ranga Reddy district and that the viscera samples were sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
