Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police on Saturday registered a case against IT Grids (India) Private Limited located at Madhapur for allegedly obtaining data of Andhra Pradesh voters in a fraudulent manner and misusing it. A case of criminal conspiracy, cheating, theft IT Act was registered.
The case was registered following a complaint made by one Thummala Lokeswara Reddy who alleged that the company which developed a mobile application “Sevamitra” used by the Telugu Desam Party to interact with voters, had fraudulently obtained the data of AP voters and misused it.
The data was obtained in violation of the Supreme Court orders, it was alleged. No request was made by any political party for colour photographs of neither voters nor the Election Commission of India have any record of having provided such data to any political party or individual to use the data, said T Lokeswara Reddy, the complainant.
He further said that using the data obtained from various government agencies like AP Smart Pulse, State Resident Data Hub, Praja Sadhikara Vedika, IVRS Surveys conducted by Andhra Pradesh government was illegal as per the Supreme Court orders.
“Names of several voters were deleted by the TDP after obtaining the information. The names of voters which found mention in 2014 were missing in 2019 electoral rolls,” he said in his complaint. After registering a case under Section 120 (B), 379, 420, 188 of IPC and Section 66 (B) an 77 of IT Act, the police took up investigation and reportedly carried out raids at the company.
