Hyderabad: Students of Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) on Wednesday held protests at the campus over increase in the college fee and demanded an immediate rollback.
In 2016, the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee had fixed Rs 1.13 lakh as fee for the CBIT for a period of three years based on the audited reports submitted by the management. However, some private engineering colleges including CBIT had approached the High Court seeking an increase in the fee fixed by the committee.
Following this, the HC had permitted CBIT to collect Rs 2 lakh as tuition fee from the students. Since the students had already paid Rs 1.13 lakh towards fee, they were asked by the management to remit the differential amount by December 15.
The protesting students said they were unaware that college fee would be increased after their joining courses. They lamented that it would be burdensome on their parents to pay Rs 2 lakh.
An official of CBIT said the college management was collecting fee as per the court’s rulings. “Already some colleges which moved the court are collecting increased fee. The management spoke to protesting students and asked them to get back to classes. A meeting will be convened by management on the issue on Saturday,” said an official.
