Visakhapatnam: It was a hot day on Sunday with the sun shining in full glory. And both Chief Minister and TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu and leader of the Opposition and YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy choosing to campaign in Visakhapatnam district turning it into a torrid zone.
Jagan hit the campaign trail at Narsipatnam in the district blaming the Chief Minister and the TDP Government for failing on all fronts during the past five years. Chandrababu had now begun a vilification campaign in a bid to save his face but that would be a futile exercise since the people had seen through his tricks, he alleged. He urged the gathering not to be misled by the TDP government which had hiked the pension only for electoral gains. “Did they pay pension till three months ago? Please let everybody know that when we come to power we will pay Rs.3000 as pension,” he said.
Pointing out that the Chief Minister had diluted the demand for the Special Category Status by first accepting the special package and then going back on it, Jagan noted that the TDP president did not bother to ensure implementation of the promises made to the State at the time of bifurcation. Chandrababu was now accusing others and absolve himself, he remarked.
“We will secure the special category status if you bless me and our party candidates with your votes,” he stated, adding that other bifurcation assurances also would be implemented. Noting that there was there was a serious agrarian crisis in the State due to the faulty policies of the TDP government which did not take steps to fill the 2.4 lakh vacancies in the government. “We fill all the 2.4 lakh vacancies once we assume charge,” he declared. He made a fervent appeal to the people to defeat the TDP and vote his party for all-round development of the state and proper implementation of welfare schemes.
Addressing a sparsely attended meeting at the Sarada Bakery grounds in the city, Chandrababu Naidu alleged a “Modi-KCR-Jagan nexus” and urged people to vote for him in order to develop the State. Claiming that he was working relentlessly for the past five years to develop the State in spite of betrayal by the BJP and a totally destructive nature of the opposition YSRCP, he alleged that there was a nexus between the BJP, Jagan and the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who were trying to destroy the state and the country. “While I am fighting for the rights of the State, they are fighting for their selfish interests. Jagan is just a puppet in the hands of Narendra Modi and KCR. He will mortgage the interests of the State to get out of the 11 corruption cases against him in the CBI court at Hyderabad,” he stated. Chandrababu Naidu also accused the NDA government of granting a truncated railway zone for Visakhpatnam only with an eye on the elections.
