Chennur will be a model civic body soon: Balka Suman

Participating in the general body meeting of Chennur municipal council chaired by Chairperson Archana Lamlal Gilda, Suman said a slew of developmental works had already been taken up.

Mancherial: Government whip and Chennur MLA Balka Suman on Tuesday said his focus was to make Chennur municipality a model civic body.

Participating in the general body meeting of Chennur municipal council chaired by Chairperson Archana Lamlal Gilda, Suman said a slew of developmental works had already been taken up. He cited the beautification of important junctions and widening of roads as examples. He said that Pedda Cheruvu was being converted into a mini-tank bund to offer recreation to the people. A central lighting system and open air gyms would also be created soon.

The legislator assured that he would strive hard for development of the newly formed municipality with the help of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao. He informed that he was committed to create basic amenities of the civic body. He recalled that Chennur was neglected by the then rulers for decades.

The government later convened a review meeting with the Forest, Tourism and Irrigation departments at an urban forest park, titled Dr BR Ambedkar Park on the outskirts of Chennur town. He stressed the need to better major attractions of Chennur Assembly constituency such as Shivvaram crocodile sanctuary, Gandhari Fort, etc. He told authorities of these departments to expedite works to develop these tourist spots.

The MLA opined that Chennur segment has ample scope to shine in the tourism sector and the attractions could attract tourists of State and the country if connectivity, accommodation and basic facilities were created. He noted that eco-tourism spots would be the future and tourism could create livelihood to locals and help the government to generate income.

Collector Bharati Hollikeri, Additional Collector Ila Thripati, Vice-chairperson Nawajuddin, Municipal commissioner K Bapu, Chennur Forest Divisional Officer Raja Rao, authorities of Tourism and Irrigation departments were present.
