Kamareddy: A Revenue Inspector in Rajampet mandal of Kamareddy district, Ravi Kumar, on Monday attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison in the Tahsildar office allegedly in protest against work pressure and harassment by higher officials.

The incident followed a protest by farmers on Monday in front of the Rajampet Tahsildar officer demanding issue of new pattadar passbooks for their land parcels. Rajampet is a newly formed mandal. Though the mandal was formed a few months ago, officials reportedly did not issue pattadar passbooks with the election code being in force as well as other reasons.

On Monday, during the protest, several farmers reportedly entered into heated arguments and quarrelled with Ravi Kumar. At the hospital in Kamareddy where he was rushed to after consuming rat poison and where he was being treated, Ravi Kumar alleged that the local Tahsildar does not arrive to the office on time and hence he was facing a lot of flak from people who come to the office. Ravi Kumar, who drank the rat poison from the bottle he carried to his office from home, was rushed to the hospital by other staff at the Tahsildar’s office.

Meanwhile, Kamareddy revenue divisional officer Rajendar said pressure of work was on everyone in the Revenue Department due to elections and other reasons and indicated that Ravi Kumar was also under stress because of some domestic issues.
