Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Monday said the civic body had so far collected Rs 105 crore through the ‘Early Bird Scheme’ for property tax payers, which offered a five per cent rebate.

The GHMC had introduced ‘Early Bird scheme’ earlier this month, offering rebate for building owners who pay property tax before April 30. “Compared to last year, we have collected Rs 69 crore additional taxes this year,” Reddy said.

On Monday, the civic body collected Rs 8.31 crore under the scheme. “As many as 5,256 tax payers paid Rs 5.33 crore through seasonal service centres, while 3,083 paid Rs 1.77 crore through online and 817 tax payers paid Rs 1.22 crore through bill collectors on Monday,” the Commissioner said.

Authorities said the scheme was applicable for payment of property tax for the current year only and not for arrears that accumulated from previous years. The scheme was introduced in 2013-14 and has helped the municipal corporation in filling up its coffers.
