CM KCR condoles death of noted Telugu singer Dr Anasuya Devi

Besides taking part in the Independence Movement, she also played an active role in social activities. Chief Minister extended his heart felt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar rao on Sunday condoled the death of Dr Avasarala (Vijanmuri )Anasuya Devi, noted Telugu singer and radio commentator.

Besides taking part in the Independence Movement, she also played an active role in social activities. Chief Minister extended his heart felt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi, 90 was instrumental in popularising Lalitha Sangeetham. She was music composer, musicologist, author and expert in playing harmonium. She is considered as queen of folk music.

She gave her music concerts in the presence of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Subash Chandra Bose during the freedom struggle.

Born on May 12, 1920 in a family of litterateurs, she emerged as a child prodigy excelling in Carnatic music and folk music.
