CM KCR wins accolades from MS Swaminathan

Hyderabad: Even as the Opposition parties are clamouring to take credit for uninterrupted power supply launched by the State government, appreciation is pouring in for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao from all quarters.

The latest came from renowned agricultural scientist and geneticist MS Swaminathan, Founder Chairman of MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF).

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Swaminathan expressed his happiness over Telangana government providing 24×7 power supply to farmers. He thanked the Chief Minister on behalf of farmers for assisting them in the ‘most important area of irrigation security’.

“This will be a great boon to farmers since Telangana is by and large a dry-farming State,” he pointed out.

Swaminathan appreciated special initiatives taken up by the State for the benefit of the peasant community. He lauded the government’s decision to extend a monetary support of Rs 8,000 per acre per annum to the farmers as part of the crop input assistance scheme. He wanted other States also to emulate the novel methods adopted by Telangana in reaching out to the farm sector.

Swaminathan, who made a stellar contribution to the success of India’s Green Revolution programme, has been fighting for agricultural support for farmers. He joined the list of prominent persons, including Ministers, politicians, agricultural scientists, social activists and farmers, who have appreciated the Chief Minister for his novel and innovative initiative that could help agriculture sector in the long run.
