Hyderabad: Heavy rains and squally weather played spoilsport, forcing Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to cancel his public meeting in the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency on Thursday afternoon.
The Chief Minister was scheduled to fly by helicopter to Huzurnagar to address the meeting but the sudden worsening of the weather prompted an alert from the Aviation Department that advised against the planned chopper ride.
The Chief Minister’s Office said in light of the sudden change in the weather, Chandrashekhar Rao’s visit to Huzurnagar was cancelled since the Aviation Department did not give clearance for the helicopter ride.
Meanwhile, according to a release issued by Director, Aviation, VN Bharat Reddy, Huzurnagar experienced a sudden cloud burst with squally weather and strong winds building up en route from Hyderabad to the meeting venue as well as around Huzurnagar. Reddy said these weather conditions result in reduced visibility, low clouds, thunder, lightning, strong vertical currents, heavy rain conditions and strong gusty winds that are detrimental to flight safety.
The official’s advice to the CMO was that the proposed plan to fly to Huzurnagar should be cancelled under these circumstances in view of the safety of the Chief Minister and other passengers in the helicopter.
