Warangal Rural: In an attempt to check spurious seeds, district Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil asked officials to collect samples of seeds and send them to labs in Hyderabad to get the quality tested before the traders sell the seeds to the farmers for the coming Rabi crop. He also asked officials to see that prices of the seeds and fertiliser must be displayed on the boards at the shops.
Addressing officials of the agriculture department at camp office in Hanamkonda on Thursday, Patil said that the area under cultivation is expected to be increased by about 30 per cent more than the normal cropping area for the coming Rabi season and asked officials to prepare a plan of action.
“There would be more demand for seeds and fertilisers for the coming Rabi season as the tanks, kuntas and other water bodies had received good inflows owing to recent rains,” he said.
Patil also asked officials to set up a toll free number to receive the complaints related to seeds and fertilisers at the office of the Joint Director of Agriculture (JDA).
