Hyderabad: Starting this year, a common entrance test for all post-graduate courses will be held and a notification for the same is to be issued by Osmania University (OU) on April 19.
For the first time, a common entrance test is being conducted for PG courses offered by all conventional universities in Telangana. Earlier, OU conducted OU Common Entrance Test (OUCET) and successful candidates were given PG admissions into the university, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. Kakatiya University had its own entrance test.
Recently, Telangana State Council of Higher Education held a meeting with officials of the State’s conventional universities and entrusted OU with the task of holding the exam. “A meeting is scheduled on April 18 and a notification will be issued on April 19,” Prof S Ramachandram, OU Vice-Chancellor and chairman of Common PG Entrance Test, told Telangana Today.
According to the authorities, there were issues pertaining to eligibility for courses as each university has its own criteria. “There is a need to have common eligibility for the courses. The same will be worked out during a meeting with vice-chancellors of universities,” authorities said.
About 45 days will be given for online registrations and the exam is to be held around June third week. Like OUCET held last year, the common PG entrance test will be conducted through computer-based mode. In order to familiarise students with the examination, OU plans to make mock tests available on its website.
Last year, 70,361 candidates registered for OUCET, of which 59,638 appeared and 56,457 cleared the test. The pass percentage of girls was 95.13 while that of boys was 94.17. The exam was held in 45 subjects at 24 centres in Warangal, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kodad, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts.
