Hyderabad: Congress Kisan Cell on Saturday alleged that the Telangana government helped the poultry industry in the State at the cost of farmers who grow maize and other crops, which are used in manufacturing poultry feed.
Kisan Cell national vice-president and State Kisan Congress chairman M Kodanda Reddy and Anvesh Reddy said the poultry industry was being provided with several subsidies already.
They alleged that the government, which purchased maize and rice that got discoloured after getting soaked in rains, supplied the same at a throwaway price to poultry farmers.
“In a major scam, 4.16 lakh tonnes of such maize was supplied to poultry farmers who are the ruling party members, resulting in Rs 300 crore in profits for the poultry farmers,” they alleged.
“The only ones who benefitted were businessmen. We demand that the government reveal details of purchases of such grains by Markfed and its sale. If the government orders a probe, we are ready to provide evidence of our claims,” they said.
