Khammam: Leaders of Congress party on Friday lodged a complaint against Palair MLA K Upender Reddy at Kusumanchi police station seeking to book him under IPC Section 420. The complaint was lodged by Congress mandal party president M Guruvaiah and others soon after a public meeting conducted by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka at Kusumanchi Mandal headquarters on Friday.

The meeting was conducted as part of the CLP leader’s ‘Save Democracy Yatra’ as a mark of protest against the defection of the party MLAs. The complaint was said to be lodged at the behest of Bhatti.

Earlier, Vikramarka in his public address stated that nearly 93, 000 voters in Palair Assembly constituency had voted for Upender Reddy because he contested on Congress ticket, but in order to protect himself and his son-in-law’s business interests, he quit Congress.

The people had voted for Upender Reddy to protect their interests, not his business interests. He must be booked under IPC section 420, Vikramarka said. It might be noted that, Congress workers have lodged similar complaints against Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateswar Rao and Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao at Sujathanagar-Paloncha and Aswaraopet police stations respectively.
